Trencin, Slovakia

We got up this morning and hopped on Bus 32, which we can catch right by our apartment. We took it to the train station to head off to the town of Trencin for the night. It was the kids' first time on a train and everyone was excited. We booked 5 of the 6 seats in one of the childrens' compartments and we were eager to use the table to play cards. Unfortunately, there was a woman in one of our seats, which wouldn't have mattered except she was in front of the table, so it looked like playing games was out. She also had her big winter coat hanging on one of our seats instead of her own. So Carys didn't have room to lean back, yet refused to trade seats with me.
That is her giant coat behind Carys and their faces pretty much summed up our feelings.

We asked her for our actual seat so that we could play games and thankfully she took her big coat with her! We ended up having a good time and the short 1 hour ride flew by.

That is the Trencin Castle, sitting above the town

The town of Trencin is small and accommodations are limited, particularly for 5 people. In case you aren't aware, finding accommodations for 5 people is a million times harder and more expensive than for 4 people. So we need to book apartments, suites, or 2 hotel rooms. Apartments are typically our preference and we found this little place on the outskirts of town. The apartments are above the Italian restaurant, which turned out to be quite convenient. Our place is spacious and clean and old fashioned. I'm also pretty sure we are the only people staying in the entire place...I think Trencin is more of a warm-weather destination!

We were starving so we ate pizza and salad in the restaurant and then headed into town to visit the castle. The castle was amazing and stunning. I'll do a separate post on it tomorrow with 8 million pictures, I'm sure! After the castle, we walked through the town square again and noticed that pretty much everything was closed, despite it being 4 pm on a Saturday afternoon. So we are back at the apartment to warm up a bit and we will be heading out to dinner soon.
