warning: there suddenly seems to be something wrong with the shift key on this laptop so capital letters will be few and far between!
we have been having a great time at Hotel Tenis in Zvolen. the hotel is lovely and lots of amenities. so far the kids and i have played basketball and volleyball as well as gone bowling and swimming.
After breakfast on our first day, Ann and i rounded up the kids and took them on a fairly dodgy stroll into the town center. it was a quick 1 mile jaunt, but basically involved walking on a sidewalk along a highway and crossing one as well. we all made it there (and back!) alive and enjoyed seeing the medieval castle in the center of town, which now houses an art exhibit that is apparently a regional branch of the slovak national gallery.
the kids have been completely blown away by all of the fancy and delicious food we've been served here at the hotel. a massive breakfast spread each day and 3 courses for lunch and dinner. they have been extremely adventurous and tried tons of new things, even the ones who are normally reluctant to do so.
the hotel also has a beautiful "wellness spa" that is comprised of various types of saunas with different dried herbs and different steam rooms with different scents. my favorite steam room was incredibly hot and had lovely tiles, a domed ceiling and tiny lights embedded in the ceiling. it was beautiful and relaxing. in the spa area, there are also different ways to cool down and get refreshed after the saunas and steam rooms -- there is a cold dunking pool, showers, foot baths, basins of ice, etc. there is also a big dark room with a fireplace, blankets, and huge chaise lounges made of tiles that are heated from within. the room itself wasn't hot, just cozy and relaxing. last night when the spa was nearly empty, i brought the big girls in with me so show them around -- not surprisingly, they loved it. however, they accidentally caught some full frontal nudity of a man hoisting himself out of the dunk pool...but they held themselves together and just averted their eyes. they held off on making a scene until we were out of the spa. :)
After lunch today, we head to the town of Banska Stiavnica, which should be fun!

| Yes, this painting is exactly what you think it is: a woman shooting breast milk into a full grown man's mouth. Not surprisingly, it triggered tons of laughing. |
